The Threshold

— Rogue Entity Alert

Classification: Rogue Entity
Threat Level: Uncertain
Known Habitat: Doorways, hospital rooms, job interviews, packed bags, and the five seconds before saying something that changes everything.

FIELD REPORT

The Threshold appears when the old world is still behind you, but the new one hasn’t quite accepted you yet.

It is not a door.

It is the moment your hand touches the handle.

ENCOUNTER LOG

She stood in the doorway with her bags packed.

Not much.

A backpack.

A small suitcase.

The things that mattered.

Everything else could stay.

Behind her was the apartment where she’d spent the last three years becoming someone she didn’t recognize anymore.

In front of her was a hallway.

Nothing magical.

Nothing dramatic.

Just a hallway with bad carpet and a flickering light.

She stood there for nearly a minute.

Then she laughed.

“I’m really doing this.”

Her hand tightened around the suitcase.

She stepped forward.

Nothing happened.

No music.

No lightning.

No voice from the heavens telling her she’d made the right choice.

Just one foot.

Then the other.

And behind her, quietly, the old life remained where she’d left it.

FIELD NOTE

The Threshold is cruel in one particular way:

It rarely tells you whether you’re ready.

You may still be afraid.

You may still be angry.

You may still miss what you’re leaving.

You may even wonder whether you’re making a terrible mistake.

None of those feelings necessarily mean:

Don’t go.

Sometimes they simply mean:

This matters.

ENCOUNTER WARNING

People often wait for certainty before crossing.

The Threshold is rarely impressed.

It knows something people forget:

You can be terrified and still move.

You can grieve and still move.

You can love what was and still choose what comes next.

You don’t have to hate the old life to leave it.

You don’t have to know exactly where you’re going.

Sometimes the bravest sentence available is simply:

“I don’t know. I’m going anyway.”

ENTITY STATUS

THE THRESHOLD — CROSSED.

The door was never locked.

You were waiting for permission.

Go.
