Have some tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have some talents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have some money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And suddenly you’re no longer enjoying the thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Worrying about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trying to prevent the future from touching it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You have converted experience into security duty.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The treasure has become a hostage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Counterspell<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The mage looks at the treasure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looks at the Keeper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is something profoundly freeing about realizing that existence may work more like a candle than a vault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your life isn’t necessarily an object you’re supposed to preserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do I use this morning well?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do I use this money well?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do I use this home well?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do I use this skill well?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do I use this relationship well?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do I use this strange little window of consciousness called today<\/em> well?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That question changes everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because keeping is passive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stewardship is active.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

The Steward’s Inventory<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The steward doesn’t clutch the inventory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The steward maintains it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sword gets sharpened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tent gets repaired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The food gets eaten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The clothes get worn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The house gets lived in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The money gets spent where it matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thoughts leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emotions arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emotions leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Years arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Years leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even the personality you think of as me<\/em> keeps changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are not a statue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You’re a process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are a river that learned to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And maybe that is why gripping yourself so tightly is exhausting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are trying to hold still something whose nature is movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The River Does Not Need to Be Kept<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Nobody stands beside a river shouting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSTOP FLOWING! I’M LOSING WATER!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The water goes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More water comes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The river remains a river through constant replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are allowed to be like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don’t have to preserve every version of yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don’t have to remain who you were five years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don’t have to defend every old belief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don’t have to keep every identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don’t have to maintain every chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some things can finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some things can change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some things can be released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are not losing yourself every time you become someone new.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You’re flowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you stop requiring things to be permanent, you can appreciate them more completely.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The song doesn’t need to continue forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
