class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apparently this conversation has an accounting department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meet <strong>The Debt Collector.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Field Identification<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Debt Collector appears when old sacrifices or favors are used to establish present obligation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I helped you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You owe me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes this is legitimate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Debts exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Promises exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reciprocity exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If someone loans you money, repayment is not psychological manipulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The creature appears when the original exchange did not clearly establish the debt now being collected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A gift becomes a loan retroactively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A sacrifice becomes ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">History becomes leverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A great deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She worked extra shifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Went without things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Raised children through difficult years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The daughter loved her for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what exactly was the debt?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stay nearby forever?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Choose a certain career?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Visit weekly?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Never make a decision that caused her mother pain?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No terms had ever been established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet suddenly the daughter felt as though moving away might constitute failure to repay a loan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Debt Collector had opened the books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sacrifice Creates Weight<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When someone suffers for us, we often feel something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gratitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Loyalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Humans are not isolated economic units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We carry each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem begins when natural gratitude is converted into unlimited obligation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Infinite Debt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some debts have no possible final payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI gave you life.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">True.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What repayment settles that account?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There isn&#8217;t one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Which means the claim can potentially be collected forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any debt without a definable endpoint deserves careful examination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parenting and Debt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parents this was not a commercial loan negotiated with the infant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A grown child may reasonably feel duties toward family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cultures define those duties differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I raised you, therefore I own your adulthood<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">is not an automatic conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Care can create relationship without creating property rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Friendship Ledger<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You helped your friend move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later they helped you repair a car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You listened through a breakup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They drove you to the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nobody keeps exact numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Healthy relationships often contain loose reciprocity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But sometimes someone begins counting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI&#8217;ve called you six times. You&#8217;ve only called me twice.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI came to your birthday.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI always help you.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The relationship has acquired bookkeeping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes that bookkeeping reveals genuine imbalance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes the counting itself is the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hidden Ledgers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most dangerous ledger is the one only one person knows exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone gives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And gives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And gives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recipient thinks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What a generous person.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The giver thinks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Surely they&#8217;ll repay this eventually.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Years later the account comes due.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recipient is shocked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The giver is furious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both may sincerely feel betrayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An invisible contract has matured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Martyr&#8217;s Ledger<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A person continually sacrifices without being asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They take the worst shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do extra work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Give up opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Solve everyone&#8217;s problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cIt&#8217;s fine.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then one day:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is very much not fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A mountain of resentment appears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cNobody appreciates everything I do.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did anyone know these actions were being recorded as debts?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Self-sacrifice without communication can create a private economy nobody else knows they are participating in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Emotional Debt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The currency is not always action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI was there for you when you were depressed.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore you must tolerate me now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI supported your dream.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore you must support has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Debt Collector in Conflict<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Watch when an argument expands backward through time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Current issue:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You forgot dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suddenly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last Christmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vacation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The money from 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The thing your sister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now the present problem is buried beneath historical accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes this history genuinely matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patterns matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But sometimes old debt is summoned because the current argument cannot be won on current evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Historical Evidence vs Historical Ammunition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Important distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cThis has happened five class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Debt Collector and The Tollkeeper<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These creatures are close relatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Tollkeeper says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Access has a price.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Debt Collector says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The price was already paid by me, so now you owe me.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One guards the road ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other arrives carrying receipts from behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They frequently hunt together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Debt Collector and The Ghost Job<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another common pairing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You continue doing an old responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nobody acknowledges it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Resentment grows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cAfter everything I do around here\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ghost Job generated labor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Debt Collector recorded it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is why invisible work should be made visible before it becomes ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Social Debt Is Real<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not overcorrect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone takes a significant risk for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Helps you during catastrophe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Introduces you professionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Supports you financially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stands beside you when others leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is reasonable for this to matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A person who receives endlessly and never reciprocates may indeed be exploiting others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Mage does not respond:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI never signed anything.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">to every moral obligation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Human relationships contain duties larger than contracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The skill is proportion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gratitude Is Different From Different From Ownership<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suppose someone paid your rent during a crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You agreed to repay them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Excellent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pay them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That does not necessarily mean they now choose:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where you live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who you date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What job you take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How you spend every future dollar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A debt can be real without expanding infinitely into jurisdiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Countermeasure: Ask What Is Owed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p
