class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A woman finishes a painting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She steps back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looks at it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For perhaps two seconds, she likes it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>That&#8217;s not very good.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She changes something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The proportions are wrong.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Changes something else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nobody would hang that anywhere.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She stares at the canvas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then something peculiar occurs to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That last sentence did not sound like her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It sounded exactly like her old art teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Same rhythm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Same contempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The teacher had been gone for fifteen years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apparently\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">his voice had not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Field Identification<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Borrowed Voice is an external judgment that has survived long class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The warning becomes internal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Excellent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the same mechanism can preserve less useful material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Don&#8217;t embarrass yourself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>People like us don&#8217;t do that.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nobody wants to hear what you think.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You&#8217;re too Voice Often Uses \u201cI\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is its greatest camouflage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>My mother would think this is selfish.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I&#8217;m being selfish.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>My old boss thought I was incompetent.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I can&#8217;t handle responsibility.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the sentence changes grammatical ownership, the Borrowed Voice becomes difficult to detect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It has acquired your uniform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Encounter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A man was offered a better position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More autonomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Work he actually wanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His first reaction:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Yes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His second:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p Familiar Phrases<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Borrowed Voices often preserve exact wording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Don&#8217;t get too big for your britches.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You&#8217;re making a scene.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nobody likes a know-it-all.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Stop being dramatic.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Money doesn&#8217;t grow on immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not every Borrowed Voice is hostile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are about to give up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something inside class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The relationship continues as internal structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But death does not automatically make every inherited voice wise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A harmful sentence does not become sacred merely because its original speaker is gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A workplace taught:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Never admit you don&#8217;t know.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A family taught:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Never talk about problems outside the house.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A dangerous environment taught:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Never relax.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A competitive school taught:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you&#8217;re not the best, you failed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then the traveler leaves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the rules travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The old environment has established a colony inside the new one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Old Rule in the New World<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where the entity class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The spell has not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Borrowed Shame<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the entity&#8217;s strongest forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A person likes something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A hobby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A way of speaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then hears:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>That&#8217;s embarrassing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whose embarrassment?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes a person discovers they have been carrying someone else&#8217;s taste as though it were moral law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Borrowed Fear<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Don&#8217;t go there.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>People will take advantage of you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You can&#8217;t trust anyone.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>That kind of work is unstable.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe partly true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe inherited from someone whose world was different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fear class=\"wp-block-heading\">Borrowed Ambition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The entity can push rather than restrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You need to be successful.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You need a prestigious career.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You need a bigger house.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don&#8217;t know.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A person can spend decades climbing toward a destination chosen by a voice they never identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator
