class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision has been made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yet something is still lying on the floor between you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can pretend not to see it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Humans are very good at this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cSo\u2026 what do you want for dinner?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps dinner is not currently the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rupture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A rupture is a break in connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It may happen because of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An insult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A dismissal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A broken promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A misunderstanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A boundary crossed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A moment when someone needed support and did not receive it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A conversation that became cruel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The original problem may even be solved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rupture can remain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Content and Connection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suppose two friends argue about money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually they agree on the amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Content solved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But during the argument one the second one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Name the Break<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes the repair begins with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI think something changed between us during that conversation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWe solved the practical problem, but I don&#8217;t think we&#8217;re okay yet.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or simply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cThat got ugly.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Naming the rupture prevents everyone from having to pretend the room feels normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don&#8217;t Rush Back to Normal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People sometimes become frightened by relational tension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So they begin aggressively performing normality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jokes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Small talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Memes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anything except:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cAre we okay?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes normal activity genuinely helps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it is camouflage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If something important broke, ordinary conversation may need to wait until someone acknowledges the broken glass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Find the Moment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWhere did this go wrong for you?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interesting question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may believe the rupture happened when voices were raised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They may say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBefore that. When you laughed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You did not realize the laugh mattered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now you know where the bridge cracked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don&#8217;t Argue With the Injury<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWhen you laughed, I felt like you weren&#8217;t taking me seriously.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You respond:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cThat&#8217;s ridiculous. I wasn&#8217;t laughing at you.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bridge repair progressing beautifully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Try:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI wasn&#8217;t trying to laugh at you, but I understand why it felt dismissive.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Intent preserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Impact acknowledged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now perhaps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI was nervous and laughed because I didn&#8217;t know what to say.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That explanation may actually help once the injury has been recognized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Small Rupture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not every rupture is dramatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone tells a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You look at your phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cSorry. I stopped listening for a second. What were you saying?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tiny repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone makes a joke and you snap at them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cThat wasn&#8217;t about you. I&#8217;m overloaded. Sorry.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tiny repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Relationships survive partly through hundreds of these small corrections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Unnamed Coldness<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes nobody says what happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conversation continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But now:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Short answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Less eye contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Less warmth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something shifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cDid something I just said bother you?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe genuinely no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYeah, actually.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hidden thing has become discussable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Repair Requires Specificity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cSorry about everything.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is everything?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Try:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI&#8217;m sorry I mocked what you were saying instead of answering you seriously.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Specific apologies communicate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I know what I did.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Otherwise the person may wonder whether you understand the injury at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Repair the Meaning Too<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes the wound is not only the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is what the action seemed to mean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You forgot an important date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They experienced:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I don&#8217;t matter to you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can apologize for forgetting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also address the meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI understand why that made you feel unimportant to me. You aren&#8217;t. I failed to treat something important to you as important.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now the deeper wound has been acknowledged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ask What Repair Would Look Like<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You do not always know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWhat would help repair this?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dangerous question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Useful question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They may say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI need you to acknowledge what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI need some space.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI need you to replace what you broke.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don&#8217;t know yet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An apology is not always the entire repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Repair May Require Behavior<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Someone repeatedly arrives late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They apologize beautifully each time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually the apology becomes part of the pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Repair may now look like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Arriving on time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trust is often repaired less by language than by repeated evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Words reopen the workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Behavior rebuilds the bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don&#8217;t Demand Immediate Restoration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You apologize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI&#8217;m still angry.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not respond:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWhat else do you want from me? I wanted to acknowledge it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That may be the entire spell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Repair means tending responsibly to damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reconciliation requires more:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mutual willingness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those cannot always be summoned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do Not Skip the Crack<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the strangest habits humans have is continuing to build on damaged connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile everyone carefully walks around the crack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes the strongest move is to stop construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Point down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cThis part isn&#8217;t sound.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then decide what can actually support weight again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Mage&#8217;s Practice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a difficult interaction, do not ask only:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cDid we solve it?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWhat happened between us while we were solving it?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did someone feel dismissed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Humiliated?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abandoned?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Misrepresented?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Threatened?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ignored?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did you say something you need to retrieve?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did they?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps nothing broke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But when something did, resist the temptation to walk across it simply because the original problem has been handled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A relationship is part of the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the road itself cracked during the journey, reaching the destination does not make the crack disappear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Name it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bring tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And before asking the bridge to carry both of you again\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>repair the bridge before crossing it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>School of Conversation \u2014 Element of Repair Sometimes the argument ends.
