class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wolves killed to eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dogs sometimes killed because killing excited them, but there were only six dogs in Rook&#8217;s Hollow and Edrin knew every one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He crouched beside the carcass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His daughter Sera stood several paces properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Animals were brought indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Children were forbidden from walking alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lanterns burned beside every barn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then someone mentioned the stranger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His name was Cal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had arrived two weeks before the first killing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He lived in an abandoned charcoal hut near the forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He bought food with old silver coins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He spoke very little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p innocent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It sounded reasonable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cal agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That bothered everyone blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mostly, he was covered in his own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat happened?\u201d Edrin asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cal pointed downstream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They found the creature fifty yards away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
