class=\"wp-block-heading\">FIELD REPORT<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercy is frequently mistaken for forgiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are related.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are not the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forgiveness says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI release you.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercy sometimes says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI understand why you couldn&#8217;t do better.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And sometimes the person Mercy is talking about is you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ENCOUNTER LOG<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He stood in front of the mirror.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He didn&#8217;t like what he saw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because of his face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because he knew what the man in the mirror had done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mistakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bad decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Years he couldn&#8217;t get back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People he&#8217;d hurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People he&#8217;d failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had spent a long time believing that remembering these things meant he was taking responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe it did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But that morning, something changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He looked at himself and said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cYou were trying to survive.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He almost rejected the thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It sounded too easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then he looked again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou still have to do better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A pause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBut you don&#8217;t have to hate yourself to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He stood there for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then he washed his face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FIELD NOTE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercy does not erase consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It does not turn a wrong thing into a right thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It does not require anyone else to forgive you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It simply refuses to believe that your worst moment is the complete biography of your soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes accountability says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI did this.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercy adds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cAnd I am still here.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That distinction matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because a person who believes they are irredeemable eventually stops trying to become better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A person who believes they are still worth saving might try again tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ENCOUNTER WARNING<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be careful with people who use shame as a substitute for morality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shame can tell you that you are bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercy asks what you are going to do next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One keeps you staring backward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other lets you turn around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because the past doesn&#8217;t matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the future does too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr
