{"id":470,"date":"2026-08-11T18:02:59","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T18:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/depthguide.com\/?p=470"},"modified":"2026-08-18T22:22:47","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T22:22:47","slug":"mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/depthguide.com\/?p=470","title":{"rendered":"Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2014 Rogue Entity Alert<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Classification:<\/strong> Rogue Entity<br><strong>Threat Level:<\/strong> Variable<br><strong>Known Habitat:<\/strong> Difficult places, long roads, bad years, and anywhere someone has decided they are not finished yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FIELD REPORT<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission is an unusual Rogue Entity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most entities want something from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission gives you something to carry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It tends to appear when a person has been through enough suffering that merely <em>getting through the day<\/em> no longer feels like a sufficient use of their remaining ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first symptom is often a sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not a grand one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI&#8217;d like us both to live tomorrow.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And suddenly there is a direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ENCOUNTER LOG<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The firefight had lasted most of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nobody was particularly interested in discussing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There wasn&#8217;t much to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rounds had cracked overhead. Dust had gotten into everything. Everyone was tired in the peculiar way that makes food taste like cardboard and makes five minutes of silence feel like a luxury hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually, one of the men sat down beside another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neither of them looked particularly heroic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They looked exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first man handed the other something to drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then he said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cHere, bro. I&#8217;d like us both to live tomorrow.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That was it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No revelation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just two men quietly agreeing that tomorrow was worth reaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission had entered the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ENTITY BEHAVIOR<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Years later, the entity may change its clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The firefight might become a divorce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A hospital corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A depression that won&#8217;t loosen its grip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A man sitting alone in his truck wondering what happened to the person he used to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The circumstances change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission doesn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It whispers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Come on.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>We&#8217;ve got somewhere to go.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes that somewhere is simply tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it is home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it is the first honest conversation you&#8217;ve had in ten years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it is a kitchen table with enough chairs for everybody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And sometimes, after surviving long enough, you realize the mission was never merely to survive yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was to <strong>help somebody else make it home too.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ENTITY BEHAVIOR: SECONDARY OBSERVATION<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission is frequently mistaken for ambition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are not the same creature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ambition asks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cHow high can I climb?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission asks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWho can I bring with me?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission does not necessarily make a person louder, richer, stronger, or more impressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it makes them gentler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A person who has been handed a mission may suddenly care very deeply about whether the stranger sitting across from them gets home safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They may become the sort of person who keeps an extra chair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who carries a lantern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who learns how to make complicated things understandable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Who says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cHere. Try this.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because they have conquered the mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because they have been on the mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And they&#8217;d rather nobody climb it alone if they can help it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">WARNING<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission can become dangerous when confused with martyrdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are not required to destroy yourself to prove that you care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Entity does not demand:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cSave everyone.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It asks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWho can you reach?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You cannot carry an ocean in your hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But you can fill a cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can offer it to the person beside you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can walk another mile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if someone asks why you keep going, Mission has a very simple answer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cBecause I&#8217;d like us both to live tomorrow.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FIELD NOTE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps the strangest thing about Mission is what happens when you finally understand it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You stop asking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWhat is my purpose?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And start asking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWho can I help get home?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The question gets smaller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The world gets larger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And suddenly the road makes sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ENTITY STATUS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MISSION \u2014 ACTIVE.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Keep walking.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Bring whoever you can.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Make the table longer.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Get them home.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2014 Rogue Entity Alert Classification: Rogue EntityThreat Level: VariableKnown Habitat: Difficult places, long roads, bad years, and anywhere someone has decided they are not finished yet.
