Level:<\/strong> Moderate, escalating<br><strong>Known Habitat:<\/strong> Shoulders, clenched jaws, quiet rooms, and people who say \u201cI&#8217;m fine\u201d with suspicious efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FIELD REPORT<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Burden is one of the oldest Rogue Entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It does not attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It accumulates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A person who needs you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A problem nobody else seems capable of solving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another thing you can carry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And because you <em>can<\/em> carry it, people begin handing it to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually, you forget that carrying something and being responsible for carrying it forever are two very different things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ENCOUNTER LOG<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was good at being the strong one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That was the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People knew they could call him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If something broke, he fixed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If someone was scared, he stayed calm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there was work to do, he did it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If somebody needed somewhere to stand, he became the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nobody noticed when he got tired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Including him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One evening, after everyone had gone home, he sat alone in the dark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His shoulders hurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His jaw hurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His whole body felt like it had been holding its breath for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He finally said aloud:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI can&#8217;t carry all of this.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing exploded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nobody appeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ceiling did not collapse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The world continued turning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And for the first time, he discovered something almost offensive in its simplicity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Putting something down is not the same thing as abandoning it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ENTITY BEHAVIOR<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Burden survives on a particular kind of pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not arrogance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The quieter kind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The kind that says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>If I don&#8217;t do it, who will?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes that sentence is true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes you really are the person who needs to step forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But sometimes the Burden has slipped a disguise over itself and convinced you that being needed means being endlessly available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It whispers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Don&#8217;t rest yet.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>They need you.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>You can handle it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Just one more thing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And because you&#8217;re strong, you listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until strength begins to resemble exhaustion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">THE COUNTERSPELL<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The counter to the Burden is not weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is <strong>distribution<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Give someone else a plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let somebody carry a bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tell the truth about being tired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask for help before you&#8217;re desperate enough to require rescue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let another person love you by doing something useful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This may feel deeply unnatural, especially if you&#8217;ve spent years believing your value comes from what you can endure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there is an old trick worth remembering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A table is stronger when everyone carries it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FIELD NOTE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a particular kind of person who will spend their whole life making sure everyone else gets home safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They check the doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Count the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carry the heavy thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stay awake until everyone is accounted for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then, when someone finally turns around and says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWhat about you?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">they may genuinely not know what to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If that is you, consider this your official Rogue Entity warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You are included in the evacuation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are not an exception to your own mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are not merely the person holding the lantern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You are one of the people who deserves to see where it leads.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So put something down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just one thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let your shoulders drop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take the breath you&#8217;ve been saving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when somebody offers to carry something for you\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>let them.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The road is long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t have to walk it carrying the entire world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">ENTITY STATUS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BURDEN \u2014 RELEASED, TEMPORARILY.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Do not be alarmed if it returns.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>It probably will.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Put it down again.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
