cannot be performed while sitting still.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can think about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can plan it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can read about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can imagine what it would feel like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can even become extremely knowledgeable about the reasons you should probably do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And still nothing happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until you move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the fifth spell:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A possibility becomes real when you participate in it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a difference between wanting something and moving toward it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wanting is a feeling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Movement is a vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every action says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I am willing to find out what happens next.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is what makes action so frightening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t get to know what happens next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You only get to take the step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The old language calls this <em>inspired action.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I like that phrase because it contains an important distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t have to force yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t have to beat yourself into submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t need a five-year plan tattooed onto your soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes inspiration is quiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it sounds like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Go outside.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Send the message.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Make the thing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Apologize.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Ask.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Leave.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Begin.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And sometimes the inspired action is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Stop.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The spell is not about doing more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is about listening for the movement that is actually yours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fear will often tell you to wait until you are certain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perfectionism will tell you to prepare a little longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ego will tell you that the first attempt needs to prove something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wisdom is often much less dramatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Try it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t need to know whether the path is correct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You need to know whether the next step is honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then look again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is how you walk through fog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not by seeing the entire road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By seeing enough road for one foot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And here&#8217;s something people sometimes miss:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Action creates information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You cannot think your way into knowing what happens when you actually do something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You have to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want to know whether the door opens?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Touch the handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want to know whether someone will listen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want to know whether you can make something?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make the terrible first version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want to know whether you can survive being embarrassed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Risk being embarrassed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reality gives remarkably good feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It doesn&#8217;t always give the feedback you wanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s okay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A failed attempt is still information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A successful attempt is information too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Either way, the map becomes clearer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is why the spell is not:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Make the universe obey your desires.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Participate.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are not standing outside your life waiting for the correct conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are one of the forces acting upon it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your hands matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your feet matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your voice matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your next five minutes matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So when you feel the little spark\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">that strange <em>I should probably do something about this<\/em>\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">don&#8217;t immediately smother it with analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If it is honest, take the first step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not the tenth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not the hundredth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mage does not command the path to appear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mage walks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the path reveals itself beneath the feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cast the spell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Take the step you can actually take.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
