In the worlds of the Elder Scrolls, Conjuration is often described as the school of calling things into existence: spirits, allies, weapons, and forces from beyond ordinary sight.
But there is another kind of conjuration that happens every day.
Every conversation is an act of summoning.
When someone walks into a room and everyone feels calmer, something has been called forth. When someone speaks and suddenly a group becomes angry, motivated, hopeful, or afraid, something has been summoned.
The “spells” of daily life are not written in ancient scrolls. They are carried through tone, posture, timing, stories, and attention.
The Spirit of Conjuration
A conjurer does not create something from nothing. They invite something into the world.
A person who tells a joke summons laughter.
A person who listens deeply summons safety.
A person who reminds someone of their strengths summons courage.
A person who constantly predicts disaster summons anxiety.
The question is not only:
“What is this person saying?”
The deeper question is:
“What are they bringing into the room?”
Rally: The Spell of Encouragement
In Elder Scrolls, Rally strengthens an ally. In human interaction, Rally is the ability to awaken someone’s existing power.
A person casting Rally might say:
“You can handle this.”
“I know you have done hard things before.”
“Let’s figure this out together.”
The effect is not that they magically control another person. They remind someone of resources already inside them.
Signs that Rally is happening:
- Your breathing slows.
- Your thoughts become clearer.
- A problem feels more manageable.
- You remember your own abilities.
A good guide learns to cast Rally without needing credit for it.
Calm: The Quiet Conjuration
Some people have a presence that lowers the temperature of a room.
They are not removing problems. They are helping the nervous system stop treating every problem like an emergency.
Calm can be summoned through:
- Speaking slowly.
- Making space for another person.
- Staying grounded during conflict.
- Showing that difficult emotions can be survived.
A person practicing Calm does not demand that others stop feeling. They create enough safety for feelings to move.
Command: The Dangerous Summoning
The Elder Scrolls also contains spells that influence behavior.
In real life, there are social versions of Command.
A person may use:
- Pressure.
- Fear.
- Shame.
- Status.
- Urgency.
- Manipulative stories.
These are not magical controls. They are attempts to steer another person’s choices.
The important skill is learning to notice when your own mind has been pulled into someone else’s spell.
Signs you may be experiencing social Command:
- You feel rushed to decide.
- You feel guilty without understanding why.
- You stop asking questions.
- You feel like disagreeing is somehow dangerous.
- Your own priorities become strangely distant.
The counterspell is awareness.
Pause.
Breathe.
Return to your own judgment.
Detect Magic: Learning to Read Social Effects
A skilled mage does not only cast spells. They learn to recognize them.
In daily life, “Detect Magic” means noticing emotional effects.
Ask:
“What changed inside me after this interaction?”
“Do I feel more capable or less capable?”
“Am I thinking more clearly or more reactively?”
“Did this person invite me into a choice, or push me toward a conclusion?”
The goal is not suspicion of everyone.
The goal is awareness.
Every person influences the world around them. The question is whether that influence is intentional, respectful, and healthy.
Becoming a Conjurer of Good Things
The highest form of Conjuration is not controlling others.
It is becoming someone who reliably brings good things into existence.
Bring patience into impatience.
Bring curiosity into conflict.
Bring grounding into panic.
Bring hope into exhaustion.
The greatest conjurers are not the ones who dominate a room.
They are the ones who leave a room with more life in it than when they arrived.
Every conversation is a ritual.
Every word is an invitation.
Choose carefully what you summon.
