— Rogue Entity Alert
Classification: Rogue Entity
Threat Level: Moderate, escalating
Known Habitat: Shoulders, clenched jaws, quiet rooms, and people who say “I’m fine” with suspicious efficiency.
FIELD REPORT
The Burden is one of the oldest Rogue Entities.
It does not attack.
It accumulates.
One responsibility.
Then another.
A promise.
A person who needs you.
A problem nobody else seems capable of solving.
Another day.
Another night.
Another thing you can carry.
And because you can carry it, people begin handing it to you.
Eventually, you forget that carrying something and being responsible for carrying it forever are two very different things.
ENCOUNTER LOG
He was good at being the strong one.
That was the problem.
People knew they could call him.
If something broke, he fixed it.
If someone was scared, he stayed calm.
If there was work to do, he did it.
If somebody needed somewhere to stand, he became the ground.
Nobody noticed when he got tired.
Including him.
One evening, after everyone had gone home, he sat alone in the dark.
His shoulders hurt.
His jaw hurt.
His whole body felt like it had been holding its breath for years.
He finally said aloud:
“I can’t carry all of this.”
Nothing exploded.
Nobody appeared.
The ceiling did not collapse.
The world continued turning.
And for the first time, he discovered something almost offensive in its simplicity:
Putting something down is not the same thing as abandoning it.
ENTITY BEHAVIOR
The Burden survives on a particular kind of pride.
Not arrogance.
The quieter kind.
The kind that says:
If I don’t do it, who will?
Sometimes that sentence is true.
Sometimes you really are the person who needs to step forward.
But sometimes the Burden has slipped a disguise over itself and convinced you that being needed means being endlessly available.
It whispers:
Don’t rest yet.
They need you.
You can handle it.
Just one more thing.
And because you’re strong, you listen.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Until strength begins to resemble exhaustion.
THE COUNTERSPELL
The counter to the Burden is not weakness.
It is distribution.
Give someone else a plate.
Let somebody carry a bag.
Tell the truth about being tired.
Ask for help before you’re desperate enough to require rescue.
Let another person love you by doing something useful.
This may feel deeply unnatural, especially if you’ve spent years believing your value comes from what you can endure.
But there is an old trick worth remembering:
A table is stronger when everyone carries it.
FIELD NOTE
There is a particular kind of person who will spend their whole life making sure everyone else gets home safely.
They check the doors.
Count the people.
Carry the heavy thing.
Stay awake until everyone is accounted for.
And then, when someone finally turns around and says:
“What about you?”
they may genuinely not know what to say.
If that is you, consider this your official Rogue Entity warning.
You are included in the evacuation.
You are not an exception to your own mission.
You are not merely the person holding the lantern.
You are one of the people who deserves to see where it leads.
So put something down.
Not everything.
Just one thing.
Let your shoulders drop.
Take the breath you’ve been saving.
And when somebody offers to carry something for you—
let them.
The road is long.
You don’t have to walk it carrying the entire world.
ENTITY STATUS
BURDEN — RELEASED, TEMPORARILY.
Do not be alarmed if it returns.
It probably will.
Put it down again.
